My Best

Everybody likes lists - you know, the top this or worst of this or that - everybody likes lists.  So I thought it would be fun to create a list of my favorite movies to add to my movie review blog.

As you can see, I have given this list the label of my “100 Best Movies”. So what does that mean exactly?  Let me begin the explanation by revealing that the movie depicted in the photo above - Citizen Kane - regarded by many a movie critic and historian as the greatest film ever made, did not make the list. So the movies on my list are not necessarily “great” movies as defined by the pundits or the statues they have won. Rather, these are movies that entertained me, shocked me, disturbed me, made me laugh or cry, made me mad or sad, or made me think in intense, or interesting and unique ways - and there selection was independent of their critical pedigree.

The above said, I did check to see how off the wall I was compared to those “in the know. “ For example, only 35 of my 100 “Best” movies appear on the “New York Times Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made” list. The only place I could find numerical ratings for movies was at  rottentomatoes.com - a clearing house for movie reviews. The RT ratings for my 100 movies ranged from 27-100 (below 50 merits a “rotten” tomatoe).  Only one of the movies on my list scored in the rotten tomato category (I laughed my self silly watching that movie) and the average rating was 87 out of 100.  So, these selections are not completely out there and you may just benefit from trying some of them out. I should warn you though that I have only seen many of these films once - and they may have hit me just at a right time to have maximum effect.  Also, its been many years since I have seen some of these selections. Who knows, if I watched them again I may not like them.  But I have not watched them again so they’re on the list.

Of course the fun is letting me know just how crazy I am for selecting some of these ridiculously bad (in your opinion) movies and then recommending some of your favorites that might just replace some of my weaker picks.  So feel free to add your comments to this blog.
